On Tuesday, March 28, 2012, Governor Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 370 known as “Chase’s Law” criminalizing all forms of commercially sold synthetic marijuana. The statute strengthens an existing controlled substance law (O.C.G.A. 16-13-25) by naming additional chemicals currently used to manufacture over-the-counter substances known as K2, Spice, Blaze, Rx Dawn, Wicked Spice, Serenity, Mamba, Black Mamba etc.
Although the law became effective the day it was signed, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone currently in possession of any form of synthetic marijuana to surrender it to law enforcement within the next 72 hour period without being criminally liable. However, after the 72 hour grace period expires, anyone in possession of synthetic marijuana in Morgan County will be vigorously prosecuted under the newly amended statute.
Anyone wishing to legally dispose of this illicit substance can call the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office at 706.342.1507 to make arrangements for its destruction.
